The conceptual design for the Western Equity Fund Base project, designed by Aedas, won the first place (preliminary) after months of competition. The scheme is based on the concept of a “soaring dragon”, with the outline of the building resembling a rising dragon, highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit of accumulation and development, and alluding to the rapid development of the site. The interior design of the station is integrated into the double-lane, double-linked station-city, aiming to create a multiple-value-added green business complex and a new city landmark.
The project is located in Chengdu, an important node city on the Belt and Road, which is not only an important link in accelerating the integration of Chengdu and Chongqing cities and strengthening the strategic pattern of southwest China but also a key point connecting land and sea and facing the world. The site is located in the eastern part of the Central Business District of Chengdu Tianfu New Area, at the intersection of the planned Metro Line 19 and Line 6, with excellent advantages of TOD comprehensive development. The site overlooks Tianfu Avenue and sits on a mountain-watching corridor between the Central Business Park and the Luxi River Ecological Wetland, providing abundant landscape resources.
“As the eastern node of the national Tianfu New Area Central Business District, the project assumes the role of a gateway to highlight the spirit of the city. We hope to create a vibrant and highly valuable commercial complex that will activate the surrounding areas and help the city grow.” Aedas Global Design Director, Dr. Andy Wen, drew inspiration from the city to create the powerful silhouette of the building with the concept of the “reclining dragon soaring”. The podium is like a dragon lying on the ground, and the dynamic lines of the podium naturally connect the main tower.
Vertical Oasis – Response City
Chengdu strives to create a park city, and the Tianfu New Area, as the leading engine of the idyllic city, places great emphasis on green ecology. The design continues the urban landscape, introducing vertical oasis, creating outdoor terrace space on the podium, and making full use of the refuge floor space of the tower to create an outdoor sky garden, forming a continuous green interface that reverses from east to west, catering to the Tianfu Central Business Park and making full use of the full landscape resources of the Lookout Gallery. The green public space blurs the indoor-outdoor boundary and provides a comfortable and inviting work experience for the interior functional spaces. It also breaks the impression of a traditional business complex with a breathing eco-architecture, creating a green urban public space in the fast-paced CBD core area and providing a livable living environment for the public.
“Six first floors” of complex value-added space
The project integrates commercial, office, conference, and other multi-functional formats in one, and the design puts forward the concept of value-added “+” space, stacking the various formats vertically and orderly, through the interconnection and sharing of multiple highlight functions in the vertical space, stimulating each other, creating mutual value-added effects and enhancing the overall value of the format.
On this basis, it breaks the traditional design of a single ground floor and creatively creates six “first-floor” spaces, guiding the flow of people up to the first floor through multiple vertical transportation modes, such as flying ladders, shuttle ladders, and VIP elevators, so as to activate and enhance commercial value and achieve independent operation of multiple businesses in a limited space.
The double basement level is seamlessly connected to the subway, with a themed commercial street to accommodate the flow of people in and out of the subway, realizing the enhancement of underground commercial value in the integration of the station city. There are also multiple commercial and office entrances on the ground floor, with different movement lines to distribute the pedestrian flow.
The ground floor introduces multimedia art on the first floor, with a four-story-high LED glass curtain wall at the main entrance and the “Eye in the Sky” installation that defines the golden corner of the commercial entrance. Create an urban level interactive interface with beautiful LED lighting effects and changing lights from the corner roof. Use digital media art to shape net commercial spaces, attract foot traffic, provide flexible possibilities for multiple themed spaces and events in the future, and create city business cards.
At the same time, a dual urban living room is designed on the first floor to guide the flow of people and bring commercial vitality into play. The sunken plaza at the main entrance brings sunlight and greenery indoors, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor, while naturally directing the outdoor flow to the underground, activating the commercial value of the underground. The two spaces respond to each other and quickly bring people to the other commercial floors through multiple escalators. The WOW atrium is inspired by the phrase “big pearls and small pearls fall into jade pans”. Space hovers and rises like a majestic lotus leaf, and the oval space nodes are arranged in a perfect arrangement, like dew falling into the lotus leaf, which shines brightly in the pouring sunlight, implying that the grains are stacked one on top of the other, and the wealth is continuous. There are outdoor corridors on the west and north sides of the podium building, forming multi-story connections with the adjacent land parcels, enhancing the accessibility of commercial shops while creating a 24/7, all-day, all-time, three-dimensional commercial street on the west side and creating a city landmark business.
The third first floor is an infinite community between retail and office, designed to create dining, social, cultural and creative, family and children’s activities, and retail experience. Providing a variety of lifestyle needs in addition to shopping needs for the overall commercial space, as well as providing staff catering and other services for the office space. Greatly enhance the overall efficiency in the flexible mix, creating a natural transition between different types of businesses.
Three ground floors are located in the office space that occupies 89% of the building: a dual start-up office, a cloud-based conference center and a super head office. The design will be equipped with a conference space with a cloud-based conference and media center, which will be set up between a Class A office and a dual office, meeting the functional needs of both types of businesses in a fast and direct manner. There is also an outdoor terrace space that offers the possibility for corporate launches, roadshows, and other events. Super Headquarter’s Genting Lounge combines the tower with the corporate headquarters, providing a place for corporate executives to meet, work, launch and display in a privileged location with views of the city to enhance the headquarters brand effect.
In order to create a garden-like office experience, the design sets up outdoor green terraces in Class A office and headquarters office space, and through the exclusive skyline box, while providing meeting places, connecting the upper and lower floors, making the division of space more flexible and flexible. And make full use of the remaining space on the refuge floor to create a natural connection for the closed office open space, to create an outdoor sky garden, ecological greenery, and business club, to create an oasis in the sky, to add value to the office space.
