Dabbagh Architects, led by Principal Architect and Founder, Sumaya Dabbagh, completes the Mosque of the Late Mohamed Abdulkhaliq Gargash (Dubai, UAE), a contemporary place of worship that is quietly masterful in its use of form, materiality, and controlled natural light to evoke a sense of calm, spiritual connection, and to transition the worshiper from the outer material world to an inner sense of being. The mosque is one of the first in the UAE to be designed by a female architect.
Marylebone Penthouse is located on top floor of a 5-storey early 1900’s residential building in the heart of Marylebone Village in central London. Carefully nurtured by The Howard de Walden Estate and just minutes from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street, the area is one of the capital’s most distinctive and fashionable destinations. Previously split into two smaller apartments the project presented an opportunity to create a unique penthouse, featuring generous outdoor spaces including a roof terrace with stunning views across London.
Located on the edge of the coastal escarpment south of Sydney, the site enjoys beautiful views of rolling green hills and a distant panorama to the sea. The clients brief sought a new country residence with private guest accommodation and large entertaining areas. A microclimate of heavy rains, strong winds and western sun had to be addressed, coupled with the need for the new works to sit comfortably within the established character of a complex of existing buildings.
This house, in the middle of historic Harlem, had declined to a broken-up three-family dwelling. The owners, a college professor and corporate consultant with four children, wished to restore it to a single-family dwelling, while repairing the extensive original woodwork around the windows, doors, stairs, and fireplaces. At the same time, they wanted to introduce transitional modern elements where appropriate. After learning about the passive house standard that dramatically reduces energy use through insulation, air sealing, and efficient heating and cooling, while providing constant fresh air, it became part of the program as well.
Post-war Australian architecture in the 1960s was dominated by the Beachcomber, an affordable, open plan family home. In Tasmania, however, it was a slightly different story. Although the houses were influenced by the Beachcomber style, they were made with materials that suited the climate, involving more masonry than what was used on the mainland. The White Lookout is an alterations and additions project for a professional couple and their growing family inspired by the iconic Beachcomber and the spectacular location with impressive views of the Derwent River.
The Maisons Outremont project is located on the site of the former convent of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, a green parcel at the base of Mount Royal in the Montreal borough of Outremont. Working in close collaboration with property developer Demonfort and the borough’s planning department, ACDF designed a group of multi-generational dwellings that integrate harmoniously with the site and the surrounding built environment. The project also celebrates conserved heritage elements, including Ruisseau Provost (a stream that meanders through the grounds) and the central block of the convent, a prominent landmark on Côte Saint-Catherine Road for decades.

Tarragona, Spain The project enhances—aiming to exaggerate—the ‘courtyard-house’ character of a summer residence from the sixties in the Mediterranean coast of Spain. A house that three sisters in their thirties have decided to share as a summer home. This renovated holiday house is a deliberately ambiguous habitat, between inside and […]
